7,500 Irish Water customers on the Shannon/Sixmilebridge public water supply are now entering their third day unable to drink from the mains.

Irish Water, in consultation with the HSE and Clare County Council issued a “Do Not Consume Notice” on Saturday following high manganese levels in the supply – however Shannon town, Newmarket-on-Fergus and Bunratty aren’t affected.

Residents are being warned that boiling the water won’t reduce manganese levels and that the supply should not be used for drinking, cooking or preparing bottles for infants.
