National Roads Funding Allocation An “Insult” To Clare

A €2.9 million funding allocation for national roads in Clare has been described as an insult to the local authority.

€450 million in funding has been issued through Transport Infrastructure Ireland to all local authorities in the country, with €2.3 million of the funding allocated for improvement works on Clare roads and a further €600,000 for maintenance.

The level of funding in Clare is €1 million less than in 2019 and significantly less than our neighbouring counties, with €15.7 million going to Limerick, €6.2 million to Tipperary and 28.8 million to Galway county.

CEO of Clare County Council, Pat Dowling says the level of funding allocated to Clare is proportionate to the size and needs of the county.

But Killaloe Fianna Fáil Councillor Tony O’Brien believes the funding doesn’t go far enough.

He’s been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that questions need to be answered.
