The Department of Transport has given the green light to a major infrastructure project aimed at dealing with longstanding traffic issues in East Clare.

The 43.7 million euro Killaloe Bypass / Shannon River Crossing Project incorporates a bypass road, along with bridge crossing the River Shannon, which it’s hoped will result in a 40% reduction in congestion between the border towns of Killaloe and Ballina.

Clare County Council has been given the go ahead to award the contract to John Sisk and Sons Ltd, with construction due to get underway in March next year.
