Broadford Sewerage Infrastructure Set For Green Light After 50 Year Wait

An East Clare village waiting 50 years for sewerage infrastructure is set to have the works given the green light in the coming months.

Untreated wastewater is being released into the environment in Broadford and locals there have long campaigned for investment.

Confirmation the village was to be included in a pilot scheme for rural villages outside of Irish Water’s investment programmes was given late last year.

During a visit to the area on Friday, Minister Darragh O Brien told residents he’s hopeful of rubber stamping the proposal by the end of October.

Fianna Fail Deputy Cathal Crowe says he’s hopeful other areas of the county in need of wastewater upgrades will follow suit.
