An Indian Summer is bringing a welcome boost to businesses in Clare coastal communities.
In spite of highs of 27 degrees and a Yellow Weather Warning being issued for the county, people from Clare and beyond are taking to the county’s beaches to enjoy the sun.
An Indian summer has hit the west coast of Clare as people are flocking to the county’s beaches in their droves to enjoy what is traditionally known as “back-to-school weather”.
After a largely disappointing summer which included the wettest July on record, Shannon Airport has recorded temperatures of 27 degrees in the county this week.
A Status Yellow Weather Warning was issued for Clare yesterday with Met Éireann warning the high temperatures could lead to heat stress, uncomfortable sleeping conditions and water-related incidents.
However, this has done little to keep many people from heading back to the coast to bask in the September sun.
Mullagh native Brian Casey, who now lives in Barcelona, says when the weather is good, there is no where in the world like West Clare.
The unfavourable weather conditions of the summer have had a tangible impact on many tourism-dependent businesses along the county’s coastline.
Manager of the Coast Lodge in Spanish Point, Flan Cunningham, is grateful that the current sunny spell is bringing customers through the door.
