The Independent Broadcasters of Ireland, which includes Clare FM, have launched a policy document on the future of funding of the broadcasting sector at an event in Dublin today.

Local and Regional radio stations are telling politicians that they are public service broadcasters too, and that the national broadcaster, RTE, has an unfair monopoly in its dual funding from TV licence fees and commercial advertising revenue.

The Independent Broadcasters of Ireland are calling for formal recognition of the public service role of local radio stations, and a new fund to support this.
