Increase In Mothers Over 40 Giving Birth Outside Marriage In Clare

The number of deaths registered in Clare has fallen by 10% in the last year.

The latest report from the Central Statistics Office also shows the number of mothers aged over 40 giving birth outside marriage in this county is on the rise.

In the first six months of the year, 593 births were registered to mothers in Clare, marking a marginal drop of 3% on the same period of 2023.

Of the births recorded, 58% were registered to Clare mothers within marriage, while the remainder were outside marriage.

The average age of a mother giving birth in Clare is now 33.5, with six of those births attributed to mothers under the age of 20.

There’s also been a significant rise in the number of Clare mothers aged over 40 giving birth outside marriage , which jumped by 46% from 15 in the first six months of last year to 22 between this January and June.

Clare’s death rate on the other hand appears to have gone into decline, with the 453 on record this year, marking an annual drop of 10%.

Of the deaths registered in this county, 30% involved cancer, 28% were caused by circulatory diseases, 11% were caused by respiratory conditions and 5% involved external causes of injury or poisoning – the remainder are not defined.

When the balance of deaths versus births registered in Clare in the first six months of the year is weighed up, this county ultimately saw a natural population increase of 31%.
