The number of road traffic accidents in Clare this year has increased by nearly a third.

The number of accidents in which people lost their lives or were seriously hurt has doubled to six, though figures released by Clare Gardaí also show the number of incidents in which people received less serious injuries has fallen significantly.
Despite this, there has been a 31% increase in the number of minor accidents here, with over 450 of these reported in the first six months of this year.
The figures also show 89 drink driving arrests, a fall of 13, and that 382 people have been caught using a mobile phone while driving.
