97 per cent of non-consultant hospital doctors voted in favour of action in a ballot yesterday.

Trainees say they are working shifts of up to 100 hours a week, despite EU regulation guidelines being around 48 hours a week.

Junior Doctors now want to see an end to shifts of more than 24 hours.

Today’s meeting will now set out an action plan for the strike action which will give the HSE notice of two weeks.
