Iconic Clare Musician Laid To Rest

A Legendary Clare Musician will be laid to rest today.

Johnny Fean began his musical career as a member of progressive country rock groups ‘Jeremiah Henry’ & Sweet Street’ however he is best remembered for his pivotal role as part of Irish celti Rock Group ‘ Horslips’.

Shannon native, Johnny Fean enjoyed a flourishing career as a multi-instrumentalist & vocalist and his best remebered for his tenure as lead guitarist of the Horslips.

Under Johnny’s influence the Irish Celtic Rock band would record some of their most renowned tracks such as ‘King of the fairies’, ‘Trouble with a capital T’ & ‘Dearg Doom.’

Johnny’s iconic riffs from ‘Dearg Doom’ would later be incorporated as the backing track for the Irish soccer team’s 1990 World Cup song ‘Put em under pressure’.

Johnny’s life was celebrated at a funeral mass at Mary Immaculate Church Shannon this morning , before a cremation service at Shannon Crematorium.

He is survived by his wife Maggie, brothers Donal, Shearie and Ray, sisters Gail and Corn.
