ICGP Confident More GPs Will Sign Up To Provide Abortion Services

The Clare-based Medical Director of the Irish College of General Practitioners believes more GPs will sign up to provide abortion services in the coming weeks.

20 women sought an abortion on the first day the service was available in the country, with the helpline set up to offer information to women with unplanned pregnancies reportedly “busy but not overwhelmed”.

Over 180 GPs, including at least one in Ennis, have signed up to provide the new service and it will be next week at the earliest before the first terminations can be carried out, due to the three day “cooling-off” period.
