The Irish Blood Transfusion Service has begun testing samples from male donors in the last 18 months.

It follows the service's announcement that it has suspended donations from women who've given blood since March last year.

A problem with a monitoring device that measures red blood cells, means some women gave donations when they were anaemic.

The service is urging women who felt unwell after donating to contact them.
