The HSE is advising people to always ask for ID from anyone claiming to be a Health Worker visiting their homes.
It follows reports that a small number of people have been trying to gaining access to the homes of unsuspecting and vulnerable members of the public, by posing as employees of the Health Service Executive
Most people in Clare have an ongoing relationship with local HSE staff, but when a home visit is taking place on a one off basis or new staff are appointed, the public don’t necessarily know those involved.
In a statement to Clare FM the HSE says it’s always advisable to ask for identification and if the public are not satisfied with the I.D. they should ask for the office number of where the staff member is based and call to check it’s genuine.
Their message is that if people are in doubt – do not admit Anyone to your home until you’re fully satisfied they’re genuine HSE staff.
HSE Area Manager for the Mid West, Bernard Gloster has said they’re continuing to work closely with the Gardai in minimising the risk of bogus callers trying to gain access to the homes of unsuspecting and vulnerable members of the community.
