Ennis General Hospital is taking on a new regional role as part of the National Bowel Cancer Screening Programme.
The new endoscopy service at Clare’s County Hospital has been approved by a top level accreditation body to carry out colonoscopy tests for patients from Clare, South Galway, Limerick and North Tipperary.
It’s part of the national plan invite people in their 60’s to avail of voluntary bowel cancer screening, and Ennis General will be the location for follow up colonoscopies if they’re required.
Consultant Gastroenterologist Dr. Maeve Skelly expects a significant reduction in Bowel cancer deaths through the new programme and the state of the art facilities in Ennis
