The HSE has released figures showing that the number of GPs in Clare has fallen only marginally in recent years.

The number of doctors throughout the county has dropped by two to 51 in the past six years.

Shannondoc has cited a shortage of GPs for its decision to scale back services in East, North and West Clare and the HSE acknowledges that recruitment has been difficult in some rural areas.

However, its Mid West Chief Officer Bernard Gloster hopes that the GP co-op can review their decision.
