HSE Midwest Says It’s Not Too Late To Get Vaccinated Amid Measles Spike

A HSE Midwest consultant is reminding people that it’s not too late to get a vaccine amid a worrying spike in measles across Europe.

English health authorities have declared a national incident in light of high levels of transmission of the viral illness in some areas, while cases are also on the rise in parts of mainland Europe.

Children under a year old, those with weak immune systems are most at risk of transmission and one in 10 Midwest children aren’t up to date with their MMR vaccines.

While no cases have been detected in Ireland yet, Consultant in Public Health Medicine at Public Health HSE Midwest Dr Breda Cosgrove says getting vaccinated ensures protection.
