West Clare Councillor Issues Fresh Call For Red Tape Around Planning To Be Lifted

A West Clare councillor has issued a fresh call for red tape around planning permission in rural areas to be lifted, to increase the rate of house building.

It comes as figures from the CSO have revealed that the number of new homes built across Clare last year rose b almost 60%, to 385.

However, only 22 of those were in areas covered by the V15 Kilrush Eircode, a figure that has dropped for two years running now.

Lissycasey Fianna Fáil Councillor PJ Kelly believes the figures may be skewed slightly as parts of the West Clare electoral area are taken in by the Ennis Eircode but he says without putting services in place in rural areas, the trend won’t change:
