Shannon Overtakes Ennis As Most Expensive Area In The County To Rent In

Shannon has overtaken Ennis as the most expensive area in Clare to rent in.

New data from the Residential Tenancies Board reveals the average rent in the local electoral area of Shannon was over €1,100 at the end of last year.

As of December 2022, it is now cheaper to rent in Ennis than in Shannon or Killaloe.

Previously the county’s most expensive region, the average rent in the county town now stands at at €1,057.

Shannon is the area with the highest average rent at €1,133, closely followed by Killaloe at €1,122.

Clare is among 16 counties that have averages above the €1,000 mark.

Rents have continued to rise in the county for the fifth quarter in a row, with the average in the fourth quarter of 2022 being €1,039 compared to €1,002 in the previous quarter.

This represents a 4% increase.

Annually, rents have increased by 11% from €938 at the end of 2021.

Nationwide, they increased by just over 7% from the end of 2021 to the end of 2022 and by just under 1% between the third and fourth quarters of 2022.

The average rent in Clare is now more than double what it was in 2014.
