Radical Change In Thinking Needed From Govt In Dealing With Homeless Crisis

Midwest Simon is warning of serious financial implications for the Government, unless there’s a radical change in thinking in how the homeless crisis is being dealt with.

The latest figures from the Department of Housing show there were 73 homeless adults in Clare at the end of July, a rise of 3 on the previous month, as well as 176 children living in emergency accommodation across the Midwest.

136 people exited homelessness in Clare and Limerick in the first six months of this year and moved into a more permanent home.

But CEO of Midwest Simon, Jackie Bonfield has been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill that there simply hasn’t been enough progress in reducing numbers in recent months.
