The percentage of empty residential units in Clare is nearly 50 percent higher than the national average.
New figures from data analyst GeoDirectory show more than 1,000 properties were vacant in this county last month.
Ireland’s average vacancy rate across 2021 is recorded as 4.4 percent – however, in Clare, it’s 6.5 percent, a total that’s only greater in eight other counties.
GeoDirectory’s report also outlines how Clare has the second highest number of holiday homes in percentage terms nationally, behind only Donegal.
While 1,163 residential properties were deemed derelict in this county in December, that’s a drop of 2.4 percent in five years.
The report outlines that 1,059 residential property transactions took place in Clare last year, with the average house price here just over €210,000.
Just 7.5 percent of these transactions were for new houses, which is less than half the national average figure of 16.5 percent.
However, in the final three months of last year, Clare saw one of the largest percentage increases in the country of the number of buildings under construction at 54 percent.
A total of 457 new addresses in this county were documented in 2021.
