The Central Statistics Office measures the number of houses completed in each county every three months – it has rarely passed 100 in Clare since those records began back in 2011.

In the last three months of the year it climbed to 145, taking total builds finished in this county for 2021 to 410.

That’s 7 percent higher than pre-pandemic building levels here and nearly 70 percent higher than numbers being recorded in Clare by the CSO back in 2018.

56 of the homes completed late last year, or over a third, were in the Ennis Municipal District.

A further 34 were in East Clare, with 22 in the Shannon area.

17 were built in the North of the County and 16 were completed in the West.

The CSO does not provide data on whether the number of homes completed were social or private homes.

The government’s Housing For All plan, which released updated building numbers earlier this week, aims to build 33,000 houses a year nationally as it aims to tackle spiralling house prices nationwide.
