The latest Department of Housing figures show there were 275 adults who were without a permanent roof over their head in the Midwest in July, 65 of those in Clare.

That represents a rise of two on June’s figures, but it’s also two more than the same month last year, which suggests that despite ongoing efforts to tackle homelessness in this county, figures are remaining steady.

Clare County Council says the Clare Homeless Action Team is continuing to focus on exits from homeless services and its transition from the use of private emergency accommodation to a more supported model, particularly for single clients.

The team helped five households to exit homelessness between May and June, and of those, two were housed in own door properties though HAP or leasing.

Three people were either discharged or self-discharged and left homeless services over that period.

The Clann Nua Project in partnership with Mid-West Simon has now transitioned 10 clients to supported independent living with some initial positive results, where some clients have already returned to employment.
