Marginal Fall In Homelessness In Clare

There has been a marginal fall in the number of homeless adults and children in Clare.

There were 331 homeless adults in the Midwest last month, according to the latest Department of Housing figures, 74 of those in Clare.

It’s a drop of one in the number of people without a permanent home here, compared to March.

There were 139 children in emergency accommodation in hotels, hostels and B&Bs in the region, a 4% reduction on the previous month, and according to Clare County Council, 50 of those were from this county.

The fall in numbers here is in spite of a rise in homelessness nationally.

Across the country, 10,378 people were living in emergency accommodation in April – a jump of 73 on March – and almost 3,800 of them were children.

Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy says family homelessness continues to be very challenging and that the government has helped 320 families to move from emergency accommodation to a home so far this year.
