Clare students looking for accommodation for the college year are being warned to do their homework before paying a deposit, to ensure they haven’t been conned into a rental scam.
Gardaí are warning that some people have paid deposits for properties that don’t even exist, or for homes that have already been rented to multiple people.
They’re advising people to look at the average rent price in the area and to consider that if seems too good to be true, it usually is.
