Families who are affected by homelessness have been dealt a fresh blow, as it’s emerged it’ll be another month before the new homeless hub for Clare is up and running.

Just last month, it emerged that 50 children in this county alone were homeless at the end of April, a rise of 17 in a month.

While the Department of Housing’s homelessness figures reveal that last month, 74 adults were homeless across the county.

When first brought up, the new homeless hub was expected to be delivered by the end of 2018, with the operator of the facility, Novas, later confirming in January that June would be the revised date for it.

Now, Clare County Council has confirmed that it’s aniticipated that the building contractors currently on site will vacate the premises by mid to late June.

With a further two weeks allowed for handover, including furnishing and fit-out, a realistic open date is now the second week of July.

The local authority says families will be identified and ready to move into the hub at that stage.
