A former Mayor of Clare is calling on the Minister for Housing to launch an inquiry into how inferior blocks containing Mica and Pyrite were used to build homes.

Ennis Fine Gael Councillor Mary Howard insists that accountability is vital for homeowners in this county whose properties are affected by the mineral.

It comes as Clare County Council has confirmed it will respond to the request from the Department for additional information to the original application to access the defective concrete block scheme before Christmas, and will include a time frame for proposed actions to address the specific issues raised.

While Councillor Howard doesn’t want an inquiry to interfere with the progression of the redress scheme, she believes those responsible for defective blocks being used in homes should be held to account financially.
