The trend of a fall-off in house sales can be seen in Clare and throughout the country.

July saw a 40% fall nationally in the number of homes sold.

In Clare, the fall-off that month wasn’t quite as severe, but the trend of a marked drop in the number of homes sold has now been recorded in four straight months from April to July.

In that time, the number of homes sold here fell by over 100 to 199. That’s the lowest figure recorded in that timeframe since 2013.

Year-on-year, the overall value of purchases has dropped by 12.2 million euro, representing a loss of €915,000 to the exchequer in stamp duty returns, had last year’s volume of sales been maintained.

While there has been a distinct drop in the volume of sales, the value of homes sold has remained largely unchanged, with the typical price paid for a home here now standing at 185,000 euro
