The Clare Pyrite Action Group claims people in this county are potentially facing a 23% rise in the cost of remediating homes affected by defective concrete blocks.
A new report by the Society of Chartered Surveyors Ireland (SCSI) shows that the average rebuild cost for those affected by pyrite or mica has increased by between 14 and 15%.
However, the government has yet to reveal the rates the body has produced for the cost of demolition and rebuilding of houses or the partial remediation of homes in this county – figures which will inform the government’s Defective Concrete Blocks Grant Scheme.
Chair of the Clare Pyrite Action Group, Dr. Martina Cleary, says it’s deeply worrying that the the original SCSI rates for Clare haven’t been publicised yet.
