Clare Housing Committee Chair Calls On Govt To Revise “Open Door Policy”

The Chair of Clare’s Housing Committee says that the government needs to revise its “open door policy” in relation to immigration.

Reacting to the announcement of a new emergency accommodation centre opening in Scariff, Independent Councillor Gerry Flynn says the government has been overly ambitious in relation the amount of asylum seekers and Ukrainian refugees that it has agreed to take in.

Councillor Flynn has defended the people of Clare for the hospitality they have shown asylum seekers and refugees in recent times but claims the county is being unfairly burdened with the responsibility of providing emergency accommodation.
