The 385 new homes built in Clare last year marks a significant increase on the 244 delivered in 2018.

It’s also, by some margin, the highest of any year in the past decade – the highest before now was 258 in 2017.

The CSO data only covers the period since 2011, but levels of new home builds were higher again during the economic boom.

The total figure is comprised of 210 single houses, 159 which were part of multi-house developments – mainly housing estates – and there were 16 apartments built too.

The data also suggests, however, that these new homes are concentrated in only parts of County Clare.

235 were in areas which fall under the V95 eircode for Ennis – that’s much of the county – but only 22 were in the V15 Kilrush eircode area, a figure that has now dropped for two years running.
