Latest figures released by Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy have revealed a welcome decrease in the number of homeless people across the Midwest.

At the end of June, a total of 70 adults in Clare were looking for a place to call home, while 138 children across the Midwest region were in the same position.

Though the Department doesn’t break that figure down by county, Clare County Council’s latest report reveals that the previous week, there were 48 children in Clare living in emergency accommodation.

While the Midwest figure remains high, it’s a drop of 25% on the number of children without a home this time last year, when 173 were in that situation.

The figures also show a 10% decrease in how many adults were without a permanent home in this county since June of 2018.
