118 Homeless In Midwest For Six Months Or More

New figures from the Department of Housing have revealed that almost 370 people exited homelessness in the Midwest across 2019.

However, the December report, which has just been published, also shows that some 37% of homeless people in this region at the end of last year were in that situation for six months or more.

According to the Department of Housing, a total of 451 people across the Midwest were homeless as of the end of last year.

Of that number, 126 are children – a drop of 14 in a month – while 68 of the adults were in Clare alone, that marking a drop of 11.

Almost two-thirds of the homeless people in the Midwest at the end of last month were in that situation for less than six months but 118 of them have been homeless for more than that long.

The December report also reveals an overall insight into homelessness across 2019, which shows that a total of 368 people here in the Midwest exited homelessness last year.

Those people are among just shy of 6,000 nationally who moved out of homelessness in 2019; 64% of those into private rental accommodation.

Housing Minister Eoghan Murphy says that, overall, the drop of more than 700 in homeless figures across the month of the December is the biggest monthly fall since records began.
