117% Increase In People Presenting To Clare’s Homeless Action Team In A Month

The number of people presenting to Clare’s Homeless Action Team has increased by 117% in the space of a month.

New figures from the Department of Housing show that by the end of March, close to 250 people sought help from the local authority.

In the five weeks from February 17th to March 24th, 246 people registered as homeless to Clare’s Homeless Action Team.

This compares to the 64 people who presented to the team in the previous five weeks – meaning the number without accommodation more than doubled in that timeframe.

Of the 246 people who came to the local authority in March, only 44 were new presentations and 202 were repeat presentations.

The number of new presentations, despite being far lower than those who’ve previously sough help, is still an increase of 103% on the five weeks from January 21st to February 17th.

Up to March 24th, there were 13 families in emergency accommodation in Clare – comprising of 22 children.

Meanwhile, the number of homeless adults in the banner according to the Department of Housing has also increased marginally from 56 in February to 61 in March.
