Housing Scheme To Proceed In Ennis As An Bord Pleanála Rejects Appeal

Construction could soon be underway for a major new housing development in Ennis.

It comes as An Bord Pleanála has turned down an appeal objecting to a proposal for 16 homes near the Lahinch Road.

In March 2022, Darvin Trading Company LTD submitted an application for 14 x4-bed semi-detached and 2x 4-bed detached properties along with 32 parking spaces on a 1.5 hectare site at Ballylaniddy, exactly 3km from the town centre.

The proposal received twelve submissions during the initial public consultation process and as a result last April, Clare County Council ultimately granted planning permission subject to 28 conditions.

But just over a month later, local resident Willy O’Doherty appealed the decision to An Bord Pleanála.

Mr O’Doherty claimed the proposed housing would promote negative clustered residential development in a rural area and would represent a dangerous traffic hazard for residents of Woodstock Hill and the Shanaway Road.

The objection also cited concerns that the development would encroach on land zoned for agricultural use.

This week though An Bord Pleanála has decided to grant planning permission for the development subject to 22 conditions.
