Housing Minister Accused Of Issuing “Death Notice” On Parts Of West And North Clare

The Housing Minister has been accused of issuing a “death notice” on parts of West and North Clare.

Minister Daragh O’Brien has issued a Draft Direction contending that the County Development Plan, which was adopted by Councillors at a special meeting last month, is not compliant with the requirements of the Planning and Development Act.

The Minister is of the opinion that the plan, which covers the period from 2023 to 2029, fails to set out an overall strategy for the proper planning and sustainable development of the area.

Interested parties will be able to make submisssions on the direction from today, but Lissycasey Fianna Fáil Councillor PJ Kelly doesn’t feel this will have much of an impact.

He’s been telling Clare FM’s Fiona Cahill, that he believes this direction will result in the sterilisation of parts of West and North Clare.
