A Former Minister and TD for Clare claims the Housing Minister’s biggest disadvantage is the extent to which the number of new builds have been over-estimated.
Eoghan Murphy has been accused of inflating the figures after a CSO report showed he was around 60 percent above the real figure.
The CSO has revealed that around 53-thousand new homes were completed between 2011 and 2017, 1,343 of those in Clare.
But previous estimates from the Department of Housing put the national figure at more than 84-thousand, which is an extra 30-thousand builds.
The Government has been basing its calculations solely on new electricity connections but Paul Morrin from the CSO says extra data was used in their estimates:
The controversial housing figues have led to Sinn Fein issuing an ultimatum to Fine Gael.
The party’s warned it’ll be forced to bring a motion of no confidence in Minister Eoghan Murphy if he won’t resign.
Spokesman Eoin O’Broin says Sinn Fein isn’t worried about triggering an election.
