Housing Boost On The Cards For Tulla

An East Clare town looks set to benefit from a sizeable housing boost.

Woodhaven Developments LTD has secured planning permission to build 39 new homes in Tulla.

The project will involve 25 three-bed units, 9 two-bed properties and 5 four-bed homes along with 83 parking spaces.

The development has been approved for an over 1.5 hectare site on Church Road in Tulla, and a Part V planning agreement has been struck with the council, meaning at least four and as many as 8 homes will be social or affordable housing.

There was some resistance to the project, however, and among the objectors was Engineer Michael Duffy, who objected on environmental grounds.

His submission acknowledged the urgent need for housing but said that it “must be in appropriate locations which have the necessary infrastructure in place in advance of development”.

In a letter to the council, however, Uisce Eireann stated there was both water and wastewater capacity available.

Another submission from local residents Seán and Annette Haran has called for a creche facility to be a condition of the planning , while O’Halloran’s Funeral Directors has requested that no construction or rock breaking machinery is operating during funeral times.

Clare County Council ultimately granted permission subject to 22 conditions, including that no construction work takes place after 7pm or on Sundays.
