Hospital Waiting Numbers Exceed 600 For First Time

Pressure is growing on the Government to address the hospital overcrowding crisis – after a record 601 people were recorded on trolleys across the country today.

The Irish Nurses and Midwives Organisation has already organised a work to rule at Beaumont Hospital in Dublin over the scale of the issue – and is holding ballots at a number of other facilities, including a number of hospitals in the MidWest.

It says it's concerned a "major incident" will happen because of the overcrowding – while there are also calls for the Dáil to be recalled to address the matter.

Meanwhile, the Clare Chairman of the HSE’s Health Forum West, Councillor Tom McNamara, has said the ongoing overcrowding again demonstrates the need for a second full-time Emergency Department in the Mid-West, and preferably in Ennis.
