Hopes Works On Popular West Clare Amenity Will Sustain It For Coming Years

A Kilkee councillor is confident extensive works on a popular local leisure facility will lead to it being a higher standard amenity in the coming years.

Kilkee Waterworld closed it doors last September to undergo renovations with a view to being reopened this year, but the discovery of significant issues with the mechanical and electrical systems, as well as the fabric of the building, means it cannot be certified in its current condition.

It is now expected it will remain closed until at least Spring of next year, with an estimated €1 million of works to be completed.

Local Fianna Fail Councillor and chair of the board of management of Kilkee Waterworld Cillian Murphy says while the prolonged closure is disappointing, it will mean a more sustainable facility in the future.
