Clare's Independent TD hopes Simon Coveney will urgently begin to implement the recommendations of the Housing Committee report, which has been published today.

Among the more than 70 proposed measures contained in the report are the building of 50 thousand social houses over the next five years and for rent supplement to be increased to reflect current market rates.

There's a call for a moratorium on house repossessions and the establishment a special agency to help speed up the procurement of accomodation by local authorities.

Dr. Michael Harty, who is a member of the Housing Committee, has been telling me that they also looked at the cost of building.
