Under legislation being debated in the European Parliament, all drones weighing over 250 grams will have to be registered with authorites, a change from the current Irish limit of over 1 kilogramme.

The rules will also seek to ensure that those flying drones in a public place are sufficiently skilled to do so.

Ireland South MEP Deirdre Clune says while the devices have many benefits, they also present risks.
