Hopes That Inis Fest Will Return Despite Financial Losses

Organisers of Inis Fest are hoping the event will go ahead again in the future despite making losses of around 60,000 euro this weekend.

1,100 people attended the event each night at the Showgrounds in Ennis, while more went to a family day there yesterday.

Sales figures for the first-ever Inis Fest have yet to be finalised but organisers expect losses in the region of 60,000 euro.

Reaction from the public has been mainly positive, but ticket sales were disappointing with only 1,100 people attending the two nights of music headlined by Damien Dempsey and Nathan Carter.

Councillor Johnny Flynn was involved in the organisation of the event as part of his role as Mayor of Ennis, which has just come to an end.

He says the event provided a massive boost to businesses in the town, however, it was evident in the days running up to the event that organisers were going to take a substantial financial hit.

Donations of €3,000 were made by people attending yesterday's free family event, a move decribed by organisers as a testament to the hard work of the team invovled in making the event a reality.

They'll take stock of losses over the coming days but Darren Purtill hopes the event will return.
