The OPW says it will likely seek further information shortly relating to an application by Clare County Council, which is currently being assessed.

Dozens of acres of land became submerged in Doonbeg and in Ballynacally and Kildysert following storm weather last year and farmers had been hoping for a decision on works to bolster defences before the winter.

Tony Finn, a suckler farmer from Kildysert says a delay in the decision could have a devastating affect on farmers' livelihood.
