Hopes of economic benefit from viewing point of eagles on Lough Derg

Clare County Council is hopeful that a viewing and information point for Lough Derg's most famous residents will deliver another economic boost for East Clare.

The viewing point at Mountshannon Pier was established to give the best possible view of the white tailed sea eagles that have been there since 2011.

An eaglet chick was successfully hatched by them in 2013, the first of its kind in Ireland in 110 years.

The platform opened last July, and 10,000 people flocked there last summer, bringing an estimated half a million euro spend into the local economy.
