It’s hoped a new multi-authority strategic plan will spur the future development of marine-related industry and tourism along the Shannon Estuary.

The first-of-its-kind document has been drawn up by local authorities and agencies throughout the MidWest, and outlines ways in which the estuary can be used to attract further cruise ship activity.

It also identifies the Clare areas of Moneypoint and Innismurry/Cahercon as ‘strategic sites’, as well as a number Clare bays as opportunity points for fishing and aquaculture.

Housing Minister and MidWest TD Jan O’Sullivan is hopeful this plan can be used to spur growth on both sides of Ireland’s largest estuary
