Hopes are being expressed in Clare that victims of domestic violence will have access to free psychological supports as soon as this year.

It comes after Clare councillors unanimously backed the move earlier this month, with more than 100 domestic incidents reported to Gardai in this county in the first three months of this year.

Currently, perpetrators of gender and sexual violence have access to free counselling over the duration of a sentence, but supports are removed for victims once trials are finished.
