Hopes That Council Will Incorporate Ennistymon Community Ideas When Prgressing Statue Plans

Hope has been expressed that the local authority will incorporate ideas from the local community as it progresses plans for a statue in Ennistymon.

Clare County Council has paused plans to erect an interpretive art piece in the North Clare town, to enable a broader public engagement process to take place.

It follows local objections to the piece; a six foot tall Puca, which is a shapeshifting creature in Irish mythology that some people think is bad luck.

The council will now review submissions received and engage with a listening process with the community over the coming weeks, but it’s not yet clear whether the current plans have been completely scrapped.

The statue was due to be placed outside the premises occupied by Physical Therapist Ciara Fahy and she believes there’s great potential in what the statue could mean for the town.
