The recipient of Clare’s 2024 Volunteers in Sport Award has expressed hope that an increased number inclusion officer roles will continue to be seen within sports clubs countywide.
Nicola Welford who is the disability officer at Derg Athletics Club has been recognised for her work within the club, having first gotten involved to provide an outlet for her daughter.

Designated inclusion officers aren’t widespread across clubs, with designated training and supports available for those looking to adapt the role.
Nicola says the landscape has improved in recent years but that every sporting organisation should implement the role to part of their executive committees.
