Hopes That Bird Flu Deaths Won’t See Eagles Leave Lough Derg

The head of the Golden Eagle Trust remains confident that white-tailed eagles will continue to be a fixture on Lough Derg, despite losing another bird to bird flu.

The Department of Agriculture has confirmed that an eagle found dead in East Clare, has tested positive for a strain of the disease.

It’s the third case of bird flu in Ireland this year.

All have been located near Lough Derg, and two have led to the deaths of white-tailed eagles.

The bird who died was a female named Saoirse, but Dr. Allan Mee is hopeful her mate will re-pair.
