Clare’s Fine Gael TD says planning permission for the new 96-bed unit at the region’s main hospital is a major step forward in reducing overcrowding at the facility.
UL Hospitals Group chief executive Colette Cowan has confirmed Limerick City & County Council has approved the project, which will cost €25 million to complete.

The Group must now wait on a decision on capital funding grants later this year, with work potentially beginning on the unit in 2022.
Clarecastle-based Deputy Joe Carey says he’s hopeful the facility will be operational within three years.
